Dr Daniel Shayo
Dr Daniel Shayo has been a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law in the Department of Economic Law since December 2016, after receiving his doctorate (Dr. jur.) at the University of Konstanz in Germany. In July 2017 he was appointed the Coordinator of the research project on regional integration which is funded by the German Ministry of Economic and Co-operation (BMZ) and run jointly between the University of Bayreuth and the University of Dar es Salaam through the Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies. In October 2018 he was appointed the Head of the Economic Law Department effective from 1st November 2018. He is also an external examiner the Open University of Tanzania since March 2018 and Mzumbe University since December 2017. His research and areas of interest are Company Law, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility and Competition Law.
Previously he was an Assistant Lecturer at the same department, the position he assumed since he joined the University of Dar es Salaam in 2005. In April 2012 Shayo started the doctoral studies, following an award of a joint scholarship between the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MOEVT) and the Deutscher Akademiker Austausch Dienst (DAAD).
Before joining the University of Dar es Salaam, Shayo worked at the Institute of Finance Management, in Dar es Salaam, where he began his professional career as an Assistant Lecturer in January 2003 after studying the Bachelor and Masters of Laws at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Shayo has been active in the law practice as well. He became an Advocate in December 2004 and an active member of the Tanganyika and the East African Law Societies. In 2007, in collaboration with other partners, he founded the KMS Attorneys, a law firm with head offices in Dar es Salaam.
