The interdisciplinary research project "Steering Regional Integration through Regional Economic Communities in Africa" (2017-2019) investigated how economic and social development in Africa can be promoted by cross-border cooperation and regional integration. Lawyers, economists and political scientists from Africa and Europe worked closely together, in order to gain a better understanding of how cross-border cooperation works. The results of the research throw light on how social and economic progress in Africa can be encouraged and sustained by means of regional integration.
The project was jointly run by the University of Bayreuth in Germany and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania under the umbrella of the Tanzanian-German Centre for Eastern African Legal Studies. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
